한국에서 태어나 뉴욕에서 활동 중인 황란 작가는 삶과 죽음의 순환, 가시성과 비가시성, 그리고 찰나의 아름다움을 크고 상징적인 이미지로 형상화한다. 일찍이 패션계에서 일을 한 경험과 9/11 사태를 가까운 곳에서 겪은 개인적 기억들을 바탕으로 그녀는 일상의 재료를 차용하여 섬세하고 감각적인 이미지를 구현함과 동시에, 반복과 고행을 동반하는 정교한 수작업을 통해 동양적 선의 세계의 관점에서 한 인간이 사회에서 갖는 숙고와 반추의 시간을 탐구한다.

황란의 작품은 뉴욕 브루클린 미술관 등 여러 미술관에서 작품을 소장하고 있으며, 미국의 매스모카 미술관, 싱가폴의 아시안 시빌라이제이션 미술관과 에르메스 파운데이션에서 개인전을 하였고, 뉴욕대학교와 두바이 오페라하우스 로비에 영구 컬렉션 되어있으며 2021년에 설치 될 페이스북 뉴욕본사작품 설치작가로 선정되었다. 이외에 스위스, 프랑스, 뉴욕, 북경, 한국 등 전세계 각지에서 전시를 하였다. 황란 작가는 미국 뉴욕에 있는 스쿨오브비주얼아트에서 파인아트로 학사, 아트 프랙티스로 석사학위를 받았다.

Born in Korea and active in New York, Hwang Ran embodies the cycle of life and death, visibility and invisibility, and the beauty of a moment by a large and symbolic image. Based on her early work in the fashion world and personal memories of 9/11 near her, she implements delicate and sensuous images by everyday materials, while exploring the time of reflection from the perspective of the oriental world through elaborate handmade work with  repetition and asceticism.

Hwang's works are owned by several art galleries, including the Brooklyn Museum in New York, and she has exhibited at the Massmoca Museum in the United States, the Asian Stabilization Museum in Singapore, and the Hermes Foundation, and has been selected as the installation artist of Facebook's New York headquarters, which will be installed in the lobby of New York University and Dubai Opera House. In addition, exhibitions were held around the world, including Switzerland, France, New York, Beijing, and Korea. Hwang Ran received a bachelor's degree in Fine Art and a master's degree in Art Practice from School of Visual Art in New York, USA.
